Most people I know are aware that I was diagnosed with MDS last year. I was offered a stem cell transplant in December if a donor could be found. Last week I was advised that an unmatched donor has been found who is willing to offer stem cells. Treatment should start during March.
I will need to isolate for a couple of weeks before treatment, and for quite a while after. I should be in hospital for between four and six weeks. It will take about a year for my immune system to recover, so I will need to be very careful for some time.
I will be stopping my Tuesday class for a while when the treatment starts, but hope to return to it online as soon as possible, but probably not until the summer. I will restart the monthly in-person class as soon as I am able, but not until October at the earliest.
